ブログを読んでくださっていた皆さん、ご無沙汰しております。
9月17日のエントリー「ロングトレイルは遠足である。（つづき）」を最後に、更新をしておりませんでした。

パシフィック・クレスト・トレイル（PCT）のスルーハイクはどうなったのか？とお思いの方もいらっしゃるでしょう。

結論から言いますと、スルーハイクは断念しました。約400mile（約640km）を残して、帰国しました。

実は、出発前から父が病を患っており、病状が悪化した際は帰ると決めていたのです。父の状態が良くないことを知ったのは、2238mile（約3580km）地点にあるTrout Lake（トラウト・レイク）という田舎町におりた時。兄からのメールに詳細が記してありました。

一刻を争う状況ではないとのことでしたが、確実に悪くなってきていることは事実。あと3週間ほどで踏破できる地点にいたとはいえ、迷いはありませんでした。

9月末に帰国。父との生活のはじまりです。生まれてこのかた、何ひとつ親孝行をしてこなかった放蕩息子としては、できる限りのことをしようと考えていました。

しかし、1カ月半が過ぎた11月半ば、残念ながら父は他界しました。享年67歳。多くの方から「早すぎる・・・」という声をいただきましたが、これが父が持って生まれた寿命だったのだと思います。

2238mile（約3580km）地点のTrout Lake（トラウト・レイク）。まぎれもなく、これが、今回の私のゴールです。つづきは、またいつか、かならず。
